Amon Duul II's "Vive La Trance" is a multitextured, psychedelic gem that condenses the lush production of '70s prog rock with the wild experimentation of '60s psychedelia. The tracks (for the most part) range from 3 1/2 to 4 minutes/5(16).

Vive La Trance (UA, ) is not only even more structured but it is also melodic. This is Amon Duul II's pop album. The exception is the new multi-part suite, Mozambique, but that, too, sounds like a melodic fantasy: no exotic tempos, no gypsy violin, and, instead, a piano leading the melody and a loud guitar riff.

Hope the session-tapes are not lost - and some of the outtakes/alternative takes will someday appear as part of a Deluxe CD-Reissue - but maybe this is only a dream!

Dec 08,  · German counterculture freak-rock veterans Amon Duul 2 released this boisterous album at the end of what many fans consider their peak. It is not their most representative nor their most daring work but deserves attention for the things it does get right rather than being written off for not being their masterpiece.
