On "Midnight Mushrumps", bassist Philip Nester was added and rock was added to the mix. Here you can hear the beginnings of the unique sound that reached its peak on the superlative "Red Queen to Gryphon Three" album. The centerpiece of the album is the minute title cut/5(21).

This debut album by the group Gryphon was originally released in by the transatlantic record label. It is an incredible album with every track perfectly put together. There is originality here with a very interesting arrangement and sound that was refreshing back in the early s and still sounds fabulous today/5(23).

The minute title track by Richard Harvey took up one whole side of the original LP, and incorporated medieval, baroque, and classical-era influences in its structure. That track is probably what attracted Yes (and, more specifically, Steve Howe) to the group in time for them to be booked as an opening act on the progressive rock supergroup's tour.
